Azzurra hesitated. Saying either might not give the right outlook, nor would flat out not answering. So, deciding to be vague, she sighed before continuing on. "I'm not sure what to think Shay. I really don't."
Aella shivered at the thought, closing her eyes against the image her mind presented her with. "Has it happened since?"

"Your opinion. Because it matters. Do you think I really am a rager?" She asked, looking at her feet. "And I'm not making you choose. Maybe Nova and I can settle our differences, but we'd better leave that to later; we're already late."
"I know. And that's why they have new regulations. To prevent that from happening." Ve muttered, grimacing at the thought. She wished she hadn't recalled that memory, but Aella had to know.

Thinking back, Azzurra did indeed remember that day. She'd watched in first awe, then horror as Shay battled the blood balls. She'd been quite shaken up. that was correct. The first girl in Regalia to hit so many...It was almost too impossible to believe. Yet it had happened. It was back when Azzurra was becoming accustomed to her reign as queen. She had been lounging back on Adra, watching her cousin with a faint smile. That is, until the tenth hit. The smile had disappeared to a look of horror, one that was only matched by the medic and her bond. Pushing Adra as fast as she could, she'd followed the two fliers and passengers to the wing where she would spend most of her waking hours for the next few weeks. Shaking her head as she came out of the memory, Azzurra nodded slowly. Her glazed eyes clearing, she watched Shay in silence for a long time before saying, "No, I don't want to forget. And I don't want to stop being your friend. Yet, I don't want to end my friendship with Nova. If you're going to make me choose...Neither of us will enjoy the results." Looking away, it was only then she remembered the last few words Shay had said. "My opinion? Whatever for?"
Aella, wincing at the story, quickly looked down. She could remember that time. She'd only been a young flier then. Too young to care about bonds or anything more than when she'd be fed again. "That...that's horrible." She whispered, hoping it would never happen ever again.

Shay was silent as she faced Azzurra. "Do you not want to be my friend? Do you want to forget all we've been through together?" The answer was, indeed, going to be a surprise. Although they had been friends for only a year or so, she still felt obligated to remember everything that they had done together. She remembered little things, like eating dinner the first night she was in Regalia and meeting Azzurra's bond. She remembered what had happened with Basil and Dill. But she would always remember the day when they took the trip on Azzurra's flier to the stadium.
It was a short flight, but she still remembered in detail what had happened. A group of boys were showing off their skills with the sword against the blood balls. And most of them were only hitting half. However, Shay hung back, not quite wanting to get involved with them for fear of making a fool out of herself. Finally, one of them, a quiet boy who had been hitting more than the others, offered her his sword.
Taking it in her sweaty hand, she still remembered showing off her skill with a sword, breaking nine of the blood balls that they shot at her. She couldn't recall anything except the burst of blood as her hands slid where they wanted. The balls burst; the blood rained down in a curtain of red. And it all started with leaping from Azzurra's flier and falling towards the ground, landing hard on the balls of her feet with her crown nestled on her head, its glinting silver sheen glowing in the torchlight.
Ten, ten blood balls were launched at her. She drifted fluidly from standing to crouching, moving her legs to be evenly balanced. The blood balls shot out of the cannon one by one, hurtling towards her like comets. She pulled away the discomfort of standing in front of the boys and settled into a lower crouch, the sword perfectly weighted in her hands.
The thick spheres seemed to slow to a near halt, stopping within reach. She thrust the sword through the first, mesmerized by the spray of blood. Pictures, images, settled into fragments. They were red and black, silver, and flesh. They were blood and unpunctured balls, sword, and hand. Her vision was wrong; something was off. She shifted her body, pulling out of her stance. Her eyes connected with Lysa's. Her little sister stared at her.
Shay turned, seeing the object but it was too late. Something heavy knocked her to the ground. Pain, sharp bolts of pain radiated from the left side of her chest. She tried to sit up to see what had hit me but spots attacked my vision and she was forced down by a pair of strong hands. Someone, a male medic, tentatively put pressure on her ribs. She almost screamed, biting her tongue with just the kind of force to stop herself. "Nali!" He called. There, she recognized the name of the russet-furred bat.
The medic she also remembered. He was Terron, one of the youngest doctor's assigned to overview training and prevent injuries in the stadium. His bat was one of the larger species, its wings so huge that four people sitting upon her broad back were just the beginning of strain. The medic, gently lifting me, set me upon her and watched her soar up and circle while he ran half the length of the field and jumped, his long leps propelling him onto a smaller bat.
And thus the two bats left together and Shay ended up in the hospital with broken ribs.
What memories... the first girl to hit more than seven of the ten blood balls. And to hit them wiht a man's sword... they called her a rager. She called herself a princess.
Looking up, she stared at Azzurra. "Remember that day in the stadium? When I did the blood balls and got nine of them and then Terron brought me in on Nali?" The day was just a brick in the wall, witch spanned forever in time. "I hope you remember... because I need your opinion."
Ve took one of the loops attached to the boat between her claws. A larger gray bat pushed her aside. "Save your energy!" It repremanded and Ve was forced to return to the boat, fluttering down to the deck and wishing she could somehow help. Settling down besdies Amati, she began the story.
"Our first patrol is still discussed between the guards and I'm surprised that word hasn't gotten around to anyone just joining the team; new additions and new bonds. Anyway, it was a quiet night, no trouble to be had in teh palace, where we were stationed. So Amati decided that we would go on a short break and fly outside for a little bit. And so we did. And while we were out there and not stationed outside the hospital, something caught fire from an unattended torach and a whole row of beds burned. Luckily, there were no patients in that wing. But to make things worse, one of the surgeons burned his hands trying to put out the fire and had to take a month off while they healed. Meanwhile, it was a horrible time. The Gnawer's had just launched another attack on Regalia and meanwhile we were a surgeon down, which put us terribly behind with sewing up cuts and injuries. Nali's mate, Ralon, died. He lost too much blood from a wing gash and I still feel like it was my fault for telling Amati that we could take a break." Ve fell silent, not used to talking for such a long period of time. Usually fliers were quiet, selfless beings who listened to others rather than adding to the conversation.

Looking to the man with a raised eyebrow, Azzurra only nodded as Shay responded. Then, shaking her head, she smiled slightly. It wasn't without warmth, yet it wasn't her cheery grin either. "Perhaps we'd better go." She said, turning abruptly. No reason to keep them waiting.
"No, what happened?" Aella, interested. Still thinking that she was to blame, she shoved this thought away, curious as to what Ve had to say.

"I don't know!" She moaned, flopping back on the bed. She was staring up at the ceiling, wondering when they'd have to leave when a short man came bustling into the room and announced in a squeaky voice, "Queen Azzurra," he bowed, "Princess Shay," He bowed again. "Your presence is requested in the Grand Hall." Shay nodded, hopping to her feet. "Tell them that we will be attending presently and that we just need a few minutes to discuss some minor issues." The little man nodded, shuffling off down the hallway.
"You didn't mess up. You never did hear about my first patrol with Amati, did you?"

"Why didn't you pay attention to it?" Azzurra asked, leaning against the doorframe again. She was quite aware the stone was cool, and the fact that they would probably notice their lack of appearing quite soon. However, she didn't quite care at the moment.
Closing her eyes, Aella sighed, no longer really worried. She was prepared, yes, and knew she could only do her best. "If only I hadn't messed up." She muttered under her breath, almost too low to hear.

"In the back of my head, yes. My subconcious knew." Shay sighed. It was too early in the morning to be having a serious conversation. Her mind kept drifting back to the summer, when she had gone to the stadium with Azzurra.
"That's what I was thinking." Amati said, rubbing the back of her head.

Watching Shay with a rather blank face, Azzurra sighed yet again. This was the type of behavior that was normal. Yet, her suspicious side kicked in, making her reluctant to say anything at all. After a pause, she said, "But you did hurt her. You knew what you were doing was wrong."
Nodding, Aella settled down, feeling a slight chill as the shadow of the cavern drew closer. "I don't know if I'll fly on too far ahead. Not in this adventure."
